Black History Month African Dinner

Join the JFMC and Campus Dining to enjoy a dinner celebrating African Cuisines in celebration of Black History Month!

Odyssey of Soul

7:00PM, Chandler Ballroom C (1st Floor, UC)

A concert and presentation exploring the influence of African and African-American music traditions on today’s musical landscape.

This program will take audience members through the continuous fight as it is expressed in African American Music.

Tuesday, February 20th

Fredericksburg Area Food Bank

3:00PM Mondays, 11:00AM Tuesdays

Help feed the needy by volunteering once a week at the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank by organizing food shelves and preparing care packages. Meet at the Bell Tower 10 minutes before the event time!

Dress code:

  • Closed toe shoes only (no sandals/flip flops)
  • No tank tops or sleeveless shirts
  • No midriffs or low cut shirts
  • Shorts must meet at the knees

Bring a jacket in-case it’s cold inside the warehouse, and a water bottle to stay hydrated!

Addressing #BlackLivesMatter in Schools

John Broome, an associate professor in the College of Education, has examined how secondary social studies educators perceive the Black Lives Matters movement.

The #AllLivesMatter response and Robin DiAngelo’s concept of white fragility will also be discussed.

Wednesday, February 21st

Parallels: Past and Present

6:00PM, Chandler Ballroom (1st Floor, UC)

Erin Krutko Devlin, an assistant professor of history and American studies and the author of Remember Little rock, hosts a forum exploring parallels between the mid-century civil rights movement and contemporary struggles for social justice.

Police brutality, mass incarceration, and economic and educational inequity will be addressed.

Karaoke: Showtunes!
